My Journey from Fear to Confidence

I always used to be in awe (and still am) of those great speakers who could captivate thousands with their confidence. However, every time I had to speak in front of a class or a small group, my body would betray me—severe palm sweats, a flushed face, and words that stumbled out as if I were driving over cobblestones.

Between 2016 and 2020, my public speaking experiences took on new dimensions. As I transitioned into the role of a vegan influencer in London, affectionately known as ‘The Plant Powered PT’, I gradually received more invitations to speak.

My journey began almost by chance when I stepped in as a favour at an event with a missing speaker. In 2017, I delivered a talk at Vevolution—a London vegan event—that eventually became my keynote speech and inspired my book Plant Powered.

Later, I delivered several paid talks for Funzing in both London and Manchester and, in the summer of 2019, I spoke in front of 250 people at Vegan Campout, the UK’s major annual vegan food festival. The pinnacle of my speaking career came when I created the Health and Fitness module for The CNM (College of Naturopathic Medicine) Health Coach course, recording much of the curriculum’s video content and delivering live lectures in early 2020.

Even though I’m no longer vegan or part of the community, the 7 years that I was had a profound impact on my personal and professional development, which I’ll always be really grateful for.
