In this post, I share the raw, honest lessons I’ve learned through the highs and heartbreaks of loving relationships and the one truth that changed everything for me: Presence. If you’ve ever questioned love or struggled to stay grounded in connection, this one’s for you.
I was in love with who I thought was my soul mate, we moved in and got married, then 2 years later, things had changed, we drifted apart, the connection evolved, we broke up, divorced and we parted ways.
This left me wondering about love, and asking myself some deep questions…
‘How could this happen?’
‘Had I been really in love?’
I then fell in love with someone who had been my best friend of many years, I felt blissfully happy for a year, until things broke apart, we broke up, and I went through the most challenging emotional period of my life.
This led me to once again question love…
‘How can you go from such blissful states with someone, for it only to end?’
‘What is the lesson for me to learn here?’
‘How can I navigate loving relationships with more grace and ease?’
Then it dawned on me…
In ALL relationships we never truly know how long they will last or how long people will be around for.
We don’t know what is around the next corner, maybe we’ll be with that person 2 months, 2 years or for the rest of our lives or maybe we will lose a friend or loved one tomorrow, maybe next week.
What we do have is this moment with them now, that is guaranteed, so if we have this moment now, then we should bring all the presence and awareness to this moment in time, making the most of this special and important human being in your life whilst they are here.
So, the greatest relationship lesson I have learnt is…To be present and enjoy this moment, right here, right now with the ones you love.
It doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have hopes and dreams for the future or approach a relationship without intention and commitment, but you should be aware that all those things you hope for may not come to pass.
But what you do have, is now.
Make the most of it.
