Being Courageously Vulnerable In The Modern World

A couple of weeks ago, I shared a vulnerable blog post and newsletter titled ‘The 3 Ways to Beat Frustration.’ In it, I openly admitted some of my shortcomings and personal life circumstances.

To my surprise, the response was overwhelmingly positive. Supportive emails and voice messages poured in from people who resonated deeply with my words. It was heartwarming to see how my vulnerable share impacted others.

But it wasn’t easy. While writing, I wrestled with doubts: “Should I share this?” “Will it leave the right impression on potential clients?” “Does showing vulnerability make me look weak?” Yet, this experience reminded me of two powerful reasons why being vulnerable is essential in today’s world.

1. Freedom For You

A few years ago, after a heartfelt conversation with my friend Roman, I wrote a poem:

“I have to be me, to be truly free,
You must be you, to be totally true,
We must become one, for our work to be done.”

Freedom is a universal longing. For me, that freedom comes when I share my unique self—light, dark, flaws, and all—with the world. Wearing a mask to gain acceptance is a cage, not freedom.

True personal freedom begins when we embrace and express our authentic selves without fear. Vulnerability allows us to step out of that cage and experience life fully.

2. Freedom For Others

Vulnerability has a ripple effect. By sharing our truth, we empower others to do the same. This idea came to life for me during my first sober rave in London.

The event’s founder, dressed in a glitter ball helmet and spandex jumpsuit, announced:
“When you fully let go, you give others the permission to let go!”

That night, I danced with abandon, free from alcohol or drugs. The experience was liberating, and several people later told me how my vulnerability on the dance floor inspired their own freedom.

This story, taken from the ‘Vulnerability’ chapter in my book The Journey to the Centre of Your Soul, highlights how courageously expressing our truth gives others permission to break free from their own constraints.

Vulnerability: A Strength in the Modern World

In an age dominated by picture-perfect, curated social media feeds, genuine vulnerability is a breath of fresh air. Open and honest expression is not only needed but also deeply appreciated.

By being vulnerable, we unlock freedom for ourselves and create space for others to do the same. This is where true freedom begins—when we embrace the flow of life with courage and authenticity.

Sharing your vulnerability is not weakness—it’s courage in its purest form. It’s the key to unlocking freedom, both for yourself and for the world around you.
